CONFIRMATION AT SIGNAL CREST

What is Confirmation?

Confirmation is a special time in the lives of our students. It is one of the first significant moments when they will have an opportunity to claim and take ownership of their faith, and to affirm the work that the Holy Spirit is already doing in their life. 7-8th grade students are challenged to think about the nature of God, the life of Christ, and learn about United Methodist beliefs. In the fall we focus on head knowlege and in the spring, we focus on the heart and their relationship with Jesus. The classes are offered annually starting in September during the Sunday School hour for any students in 7-8th grade.

Although we teach "Confirmation" and United Methodist beliefs year round, Confirmation is an intensive 8 month class and weekend retreat designed to solidify the Confirmation experience. The confirmation classes offer each student an opportunity to be baptized or confirm their baptism and join the church as a full members.

When does Confirmation Meet?

Confirmation classes are offered annually starting in September. The class meets during the Sunday School hour (10-10:50 am). Our students meet in the Youth Loft in Room 605. On days when our Confirmation class does not meet, we encourage our students to join our Middle School Sunday School Class in the Youth Loft.

Confirmation Retreat

Each spring, in March, our Confirmands join other United Methodist youth on a weekend retreat at Camp Lookout. Students spend time growing closer to each other, learning some of the core United Methodist beliefs, and learning what it means to be a Minister In Residence. Once we know the dates of the retreat, we will let you know.

Mentors

During the Confirmation, students and families are invited to have a mentor to journey with them. Mentors will be chosen in the Fall at the beginning of Confirmation. We ask that all mentors be non-relatives that are active members of Signal Crest United Methodist Church. We ask that each family suggest two potential mentors for your student so we can match them up accordingly. If you need help coming up with a couple of names, please let Rebekah know.
