Meet the PastorS

Josh Kilbourne

Senior Pastor

Rev. Josh Kilbourne has been blessed to serve in various ministry contexts within and outside of the Holston Conference of the United Methodist Church. Signal Crest is his fourth full-time appointment in the Holston Conference. He most recently served for six years as the Pastor of First United Methodist Church in Church Hill, Tennessee.

Prior to Church Hill First, Josh was an associate pastor at Middlebrook Pike UMC in Knoxville, Tennessee. His first full-time appointment in Holston was as the pastor of Floyd UMC Circuit, a three-point circuit of churches in Floyd, Virginia. Additionally, Josh served as a supply pastor while at Emory & Henry College in a predominantly African American congregation, Ebenezer UMC, in Glade Spring, Virginia.

Josh has previously worked in children’s ministry, youth ministry, and camping ministry. He is a son of the Holston Conference as a third generation Holston pastor, and his greatest passion is following Jesus and helping others follow Jesus in the Wesleyan way of discipleship. He received a Master of Divinity (M.Div.) degree from Duke Divinity School. He is currently working on a Doctor of Ministry (D.Min.) degree focused on leadership and spiritual formation from Azusa Pacific University in Los Angeles, California.

Josh has had the pleasure of serving as the Chair of the Board of Directors for Camp Bays Mountain during the development and opening of this camp. Camp Bays Mountain is a brand new camp in the Holston Conference following the closure of Buffalo Mountain Camp due to a flood in 2012. Josh loves to travel and meet God’s people from different corners of the world. His travels include mission trips to Costa Rica, Rwanda, Uganda, Haiti, Slovakia, and Latvia, a pilgrimage to the Holy Land in 2015, and other various mission trips and vacations throughout the United States.

Josh is an avid Tennessee Vols fan, Duke Blue Devils fan, and Atlanta Braves fan and he loves spending time in God's creation hiking, biking, and kayaking.

He is married to his best friend, Callie Breeding Kilbourne, and they are they proud parents of a 10-year-old daughter, Anastasia (Ana), and an 8-year-old son, Isaiah.

Bill Thornton

Associate Pastor, Director of Congregational Care

Bill has been in a pastoral role at Signal Crest since June of 2015 as he was licensed as a local pastor at that time.  However, Bill has been a long time member of Signal Crest. Bill and his wife Tracey have one adult daughter, Emily.

During the day, you can find Bill working for Comcast.

In his spare time, he attends seminary classes at Candler School of Theology at Emory University in Atlanta.  Bill is also very involved in Walden's Ridge Emergency Services where he serves as the Board Chairman an EMT/Firefighter.

Bill's favorite scripture is: 2 Corinthians 12:9

But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is made perfect in weakness.” So, I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me.
